About Our Leader
Steven G. Coleman, Sr. & Gesila Coleman
Steven Coleman was born in Warner Robins, Georgia on Robins Air Force Base, to Sgt. Glen and Gwen Coleman; the youngest of four. The family moved to Atlanta where he was raised and educated in the Atlanta Public School system. He was called into ministry at age 17 and was licensed and ordained at the J. S. Hammonds Missionary Baptist Church in Palmetto, Georgia under the leadership of Rev. W. R. Starks.
He then entered into the United States Air Force as Chaplain assistant, specializing in Chapel Management. It was there that he learned how to minister cross culturally and began to fully understand that regardless of race, denominational belief, everybody wants to be loved. Proof-reading and researching Church history for Chaplains helped improve his own preaching skills and gave him his own unique style of painting a picture while preaching. He later attended and graduated from Carver Bible Institute of Atlanta. In 2004, he was called to Pastor Little Vine Baptist Church in Tyrone, Georgia and served there for 10 years.
He and his lovely wife Gesila have been happily married since 1997 and have raised five children and currently have five grandchildren.
The second Sunday of March 2021, he became the newly installed pastor of the J. S. Hammonds Missionary Baptist Church! The place where his ministry began and where he and his wife first laid eyes on one another. His life’s motto: “Whatever you do, do it with integrity”, which is to say you must do things right, and sometimes you must do the right thing!
